As is my custom, I'd like to once again pay tribute to some of the great musicians of the classic jazz/swing era on the 100th anniversary of their births. Two great bandleaders head the list - Woody Herman ( May 16 ) and Charlie Barnet ( October 26 ), along with the great singers Helen Humes ( June 23 ) and Big Joe Williams ( October 16 )... also the great saxophonist Earl Bostic ( April 23 ). We can also do some 110th commemorations - Bix Beiderbecke ( March 10 ), Jimmy Rushing ( August 26 ), and Earl "Fatha" Hines ( December 28 ). And for good measure a belated 90th birthday tribute to the great pianist/composer Mel Powell ( February 12 ). Thanks to all of you for your wonderful music - you are not forgotten!
